Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Under Investigation

As part of the corruption and terrorism investigations initiated against Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, many individuals, including Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, were arrested and sent to prison. Today, another remarkable development took place. Ankara Metropolitan Municipality has been granted permission for an investigation on 33 concerts due to allegations of public harm.

“UNDER EXAMINATION BY INSPECTORS”

In the statement made regarding the issue, the following expressions were used: “A series of cultural and art events organized between 2021-2024 have been under examination by inspectors for a while. The inspection regarding service purchases covering 130 concerts has been completed. A decision has been made to investigate 33 concerts on allegations of public harm.”

“NO ADVERSE FINDINGS IN THE REGULAR AUDITS OF THE COURT OF ACCOUNTS”

Investigation permission was not granted for 97 concerts. Ankara Metropolitan Municipality stated: “We would like to emphasize that these events have been thoroughly examined in the routine audits of the Court of Accounts and inspections conducted by the Ministry of Interior, and no adverse findings have been found.”

9 MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES TO APPEAL THE DECISION

The 9 municipal employees subject to review and investigation will appeal the decision before the Regional Administrative Court by exercising their legal rights.

Following the investigation into Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and the detention of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, Mansur Yavaş, the Mayor of Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, made evaluations, stating, “Will it be your turn next?” in response to the question. He said, “Instead of engaging in a normal political struggle, they are trying to trip their opponents. Everything is possible in our country. Many petitions have been submitted to the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office. There have been efforts directed towards me as well.”
