Spokesperson of the AK Party, Ömer Çelik, stated in a recent announcement that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan would participate in the Nevruz program. Today in Istanbul, Erdoğan lit the Nevruz fire during the event.
Recognized as the “beginning of the new year,” “herald of spring,” and “nature festival,” Nevruz Holiday is celebrated across a wide geography from the Adriatic to China with centuries-old traditions. One of the locations for this year’s celebrations was the Haliç Congress Center in Istanbul. President Erdoğan, who attended the March 21 Nevruz Day Commemoration Program, lit the Nevruz fire and jumped over it.
WHAT IS NEVRUZ?
In the Turkic world, the Nevruz celebration, symbolizing the awakening of nature with the arrival of spring after a harsh winter and a new beginning, continues with colorful rituals passed down from generation to generation for thousands of years. It is believed that the more Nevruz is celebrated with mutual aid, solidarity, and enthusiasm, the more abundance and prosperity the year will bring.
Celebrated on March 21 in countries including Turkey, the Balkans, Northern Cyprus Turkish Republic, Azerbaijan, Iran, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and East Turkistan, the rituals of the Nevruz Holiday vary regionally but are passed down from generation to generation, practiced in ceremonies each year to keep the tradition alive.
